Andy Dalton elected as Mayor of Morley

On 16 May Church leader Andy Dalton was elected as Mayor of Morley for the forthcoming year. The Church will be hosting the annual Civic Service at 3pm on Sunday 8 July using the main hall at Fountain Primary School.

On Thursday 26 April we launched a new youth club for children in school year 6 it is intended to serve as a feeder to YZUP! The club meets in the annex at Fountain Primary School on Thursday nights 6.15 – 7.30pm. A club night includes games, quizzes, stories, craft activities and team building exercises, this is supported once per half term with a trip out such as ten pin bowling, swimming and night walks. Any children in school year six are welcome.

On Thursday 5 April we held a Passover Meal in the annex at Fountain Primary School.

In Good Friday a group from the church joined in the March of Witness around Morley Town Centre with other local churches.

Christianity Explored 2012

We are currently running a Christianity Explored course in The Annex at Fountain Primary School on Wednesday nights. The course started on 18 April and will run for 7 weeks. If you would like to attend, or to find out more, please contact Steve Wright, on

What is Christianity Explored?

Christianity Explored is a popular course run up and down the country for people who’d like to investigate Christianity, or just brush up on the basics. It explores who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him.

You won’t be asked to pray, sing or read aloud, and you can ask any questions you like. Or, if you prefer, you can just come along and listen.

Who is Christianity Explored for?

Christianity Explored is for anyone who wants to investigate Christianity informally with a group of other people. Whether you have previous experience of Church, Christians and the Bible, or none at all, this course is for you. Everyone is welcome – from the most sympathetic Sunday schooler to the convinced atheist. We will respect your background, culture and beliefs. Tell us as little or as much about yourself as you feel comfortable.

What goes on?

Each meeting starts with a meal. Then, after briefly discussing the course material from the week before, there is a talk or DVD on the theme for that week and to close the groups discuss any questions that have arisen. The meeting mormally last around 2 hours but of course, if you’d like, you’re welcome to stick around a bit longer for a coffee to discuss any further issues you might have. And you can ask any question you want, at any time during the course. We’ll probably have between 6 to 10 guests attending the course.

After an introductory week, we look at the following themes:

Jesus – who was he?

Jesus – why did he come?

Jesus – his death

What is grace?

Jesus – his resurrection

What is a Christian?

Why is the course run?

Christians count it a real privilege to explain the Christian message. We don’t have all the answers but believe that we have exciting news to share about Jesus Christ.

Capernwray Students 2012

From 24 February to 4 March we ran an outreach week assisted by a team of students from Capernwray College.

Activities included:

The Amazing Acts Bible Exhibition in local schools assisted by John Hawley from the Open Air Mission. Every child that attended was given a copy of the Day One publication ‘Romans Gladiators and Games’.
An After School Club at Fountain Primary School
Street evangelism in Queen Street
Pensioners Lunch
Visits to various residential care homes in the town

The students, who were from USA, Canada and Denmark, visited for a planning weekend on 28 and 29 January.

Living Word Calendars

The church, with the help of Morley Elderly Action, has given 1600 calendars to pensioners who live in the town and surrounding villages. Further copies have been given to local councillors, civic leaders and shopkeepers in Morley but probably the most supprising distribution has been to servicemen on one of the world’s remotest airfields at Ascension Island in the South Atlantic Ocean.

Church members were contacted by the RAF Padre on Ascension who had heard of their annual distribution of thousands of calendars throughout the town each year. He enquired if a quantity could be sent to Ascension for distribution to RAF personnel, families and support workers over the new year period. Local RAF cadets from the Air Training Corps 168 (Leeds) Squadron volunteered their assistance and helped the church pastor in despatching the calendars. They were flown from RAF Brize Norton to the island.

Aladdin Pantomime

Christmas Carols 2011

Our Christmas Carols evening was held in the Labour Rooms at 5pm on Sunday 18 December. This was a fun Christmas sing along for the family and friends followed by a Christmas tea.

Capital Harvest

Our Harvest celebration were held on Sunday 9 October in the lounge of Jubilee Court Residential Home, the service was followed by a Harvest supper.

The theme of the celebration focused on the work of London City Mission with homeless people and the Morley Elderly Action Craft Group had been busy knitting various types of clothing items for the mission to distribute to the needy as the colder winter months set in.

Christianity Explored 2011

We ran a Christianity Explored course in September and October using the premises of PicPac Ltd, who are located near the BP Petrol Station on Victoria Road. The course explored the basis of the Christian faith with a simple format including a meal, DVD and discussion session.
