In March we held a series of four Lent Bible Studies at the Wesley Playhouse, Rev John Williams, retired General Secretary of the Wesleyan Reform Union, was the guest speaker. Members from Birstall Community Church and Bierley Bethel joined us for these events.
Special events for Christmas 2008 included a Carol Service at 5pm on Sunday 21 December, carol singing in the Cross Hall area on Monday 22 December and a trip to the ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ Pantomime at City Varieties on 23 December for families who would not normally be able to attend the theatre. The Pantomime trip was partly financed by free tickets provided by Leeds City Council. We were also able to give Day One Living Word calendars to the members of Morley Elderly Action and to other pensioners in the town.
On Sunday 23 November the morning service took on a workshop format. Following a time of prayer and worship everyone split up into workshop groups. Four workshops were offered all of which were repeated twice so that everyone was able to participate in two of them.
- Devotional Study on Exodus 16.
- Bulb planting : Setting up pots of daffodil bulbs that will be left to grow over the winter and then used by the Capernwray team in March as gifts for local pensioners.

- Preparing calendars: These were for distribution to members of Morley Elderly Action in the Christmas mailing.
- Children’s Zone - games and puzzles designed for children and those who wished to assist them !

The Harvest Festival concentrated on God’s provision from the ground. Mining artifacts and miners uniforms were borrowed from the National Mining Museum, the service included presentations on the mines of Morley, on the work of the International Miners Mission and retired miner, Jeff Robinson, gave his testamony.
The hall was decorated with a display of garments knitted by members of the Morley Elderly Action Craft Group for distribution by IMM to poor miners families around the world. The service was followed by a miners supper.
